Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Youth and Sports is set to launch the Cibubur Youth Elite Sport Center (CYESC) as part of Indonesia’s preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics in the United States.
In a statement released on Wednesday, Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing the country’s medal prospects at thenext Olympics. He highlighted the acceleration of the CYESC facility’s completion as a key part of this effort.
“The facility is expected to begin operations this October.
While it may not be fully completed, it will already offer training centers for weightlifting and rock climbing,” Minister Ariotedjo stated.
He explained that the training center will meet international standards, and will be modelled after Japan’s facilities, integrating physical training, sports science, and on-site dormitories.
“This facility is a significant contribution from President Joko Widodo to the future of sports development, particularly for Olympic sports,” the minister added.
State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) Minister Erick Thohir, who also serves as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), mentioned that following the conclusion of the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indonesia’s focus immediately shifted to preparations for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.
In addition to the new CYESC facility, Indonesia’s coaching programs are set to improve, increasing the nation’s potential to secure gold medals, according to Minister Ariotedjo.
The new training center will also support athletes in gymnastics, martial arts, and other Olympic disciplines, providing a comprehensive facility for Olympic preparation.
Minister Ariotedjo expressed optimism that the CYESC, through strong collaboration among all stakeholders, will significantly boost Indonesia’s sports achievements.
At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Indonesia secured two gold medals—one from Veddriq Leonardo in speed climbing and another from Rizki Juniansyah in the men’s 73-kilogram weightlifting category. Badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tanjung also won a bronze medal in the women’s singles.
