Egypt has expressed interest in investing in data center projects with Indonesian companies, as confirmed by Indonesia’s Minister of Communication and Informatics, Budi Arie Setiadi, during the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in Badung, Bali, on Monday.
“The Egyptian government is keen on having Indonesian companies invest in their data center projects,” Setiadi said.
In addition to data center investments, Egypt is seeking to collaborate with Indonesia to enhance the development of the digital sector in both countries.
Setiadi emphasized the significance of this cooperation, noting that Egypt was the first country to recognize Indonesia’s independence in 1945.
Egyptian Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the close ties between the two nations. He emphasized that Egypt is eager to expand cooperation in the fields of information, communication, and technology (ICT) with Indonesia.
Talaat mentioned that Egypt is on an ambitious path toward digitalization and aims to create a digital society. He believes Egypt’s success in this area can be beneficial for Indonesia’s ICT sector as well.
Additionally, Egypt has offered capacity development cooperation to Indonesia, with Talaat noting that Egypt trains around 500,000 students annually in various ICT specializations. He invited Indonesians to participate in these training programs.
Egypt also proposed further collaboration in submarine cables, as the two countries have already initiated a submarine cable consortium to enhance connectivity services in Indonesia.
Representing the Egyptian delegation at the forum, Talaat conveyed President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s gratitude to the Indonesian government for the invitation. The Egyptian President underscored the importance of strategic partnerships and the historical ties between the two nations, which he hopes will continue to grow.
The forum, themed “Bandung Spirit for Africa Agenda 2063,” aims to build on the Bandung Spirit of the 1955 Asia-Africa Conference to foster stronger cooperation between Indonesia and African countries.
